Our Policies

Scent Smart:

Family Matters supports a "scent smart" environment. As such, all staff, parents, guardians, caregivers, volunteers and children are asked to refrain from wearing any cologne, perfume or strongly scented lotions at any Family Matters programs or events.

Breastfeeding Policy:

Family Matters is committed to being breastfeeding friendly.

Sickness:

Parents, caregivers or children who have the following symptoms are asked to refrain from attending Family Matters programs and facilities until they have recovered: fever, diarrhea within the last 24 hours, colored mucus, vomiting within the last 24 hours and or a general unwell feeling.

Respect:

You have the right to be treated with respect by staff and volunteers. Your contribution is to be valued and respected. We ask you return the favour!

Storm Days:

Family Matters will be closed when the Annapolis County Schools are closed due to inclement weather. All programs for that day are cancelled. (Call the centre if in doubt)

Medicine Policy:

It is the sole responsibility of the parent/guardian/caregiver to administer ANY type of medication (prescription or over the counter) to children attending ACFRC programs. Staff will under NO circumstances administer medications. All forms of medication MUST be in the care of a parent/guardian/caregiver at all times. At NO time will any type of medication be left in the childcare room unsupervised by the attending parent/guardian/caregiver. Children in childcare must NOT carry medication on their person.

Healthy Eating:

Family Matters will model healthy eating by promoting nutritious food and beverages whenever possible. Healthy snack items include but are not limited to fresh, canned, frozen or dried fruit, vegetables, whole grain brains and crackers, muffins, dry cereal, cheese, yogurt, milk and water. Dieticians and Public Health Nutritionists will be called upon as resources for program planning as required.

Birthday Party Invitations:

It is Family Matters policy that staff and volunteers cannot accept children's birthday party invitations.

Receiving Gifts:

It is Family Matters policy that staff and volunteers cannot receive gifts from participants other than cards, or small simple home made gifts (for example, home baked goods or children’s homemade ornaments are acceptable).
